Austin Healey Frog Eye Sprite
This is an ‘Owner Listing’ and if you are interested, we can put you in touch directly to discuss details.
“Primrose” is a 1959 Frogeye Sprite with a few tricks up her sleeve, previously supplied by Bill Rawles Classic Cars to the current owner in Feb 2018.
A large history file is available for review and will be provided with the sale – including historical service and MOT documents. More recent history from the previous two owners provides details of maintenance, restoration and upgrades undertaken.
Following a complete bare-metal restoration in 2012, Primrose received a rebuilt and uprated 1340cc engine, front disk brake conversion and rear coilover suspension upgrade.
The current owner has added further upgrades, sympathetic to her original style but with improvements focussed on driveability and reliability. Programmable electronic 123 distributor, WOSP dynator, upgraded wiring with modern fusebox, electric cooling fan and an upgraded aluminium radiator have been fitted. As part of an engine-out health check in the winter of 2018/19, a new clutch and rolling element release bearing were also installed, along with new engine seals and gaskets, spark plugs, Magnecor leads and K&N filters. The headlamps, previously replaced with more modern H4 units, now also benefit from a Philips LED system that actually illuminates the road ahead at night. Bespoke Smiths electronic gauges have been mounted to the restored original steel dashboard, along with subtle replacement push-button controls using original unmodified mounting holes. A beautiful three-spoke Springall (Jacob Engineering) steering wheel and grey leather bucket seats (with heater pads) complete the Sebring Sprite-inspired interior. Period-style safety belts have been professionally fitted and tested by Bill Rawles. A tonneau cover, folding roof and side panels are included. Some parts, including electrical items, interior gauges and switches, that have been replaced but remain serviceable, have been retained and are included, if required.
Primrose retains many of the charming features of an original Frogeye, with significantly more useable performance making her suitable for modern traffic conditions. She has been well cared for, only used in dry weather since restoration, always garaged and dry-stored over winter. However, she has also been enjoyed to the full; the current owner has completed two European trips, to Le Mans and Spa Francorchamps – totally reliably and with plenty of great memories!
Everyone who sees Primrose gives her a smile and a wave. It’s now time for someone new to enjoy the unmissable experience of Frogeye ownership.”
