Offered for sale is this 1966 Austin Healey 3000 MKIII BJ8. Built on the 27th and 28th of April 1966, this is an original right-hand drive home market car, one of 1,146 MKIII BJ8’s ever made for the home market from a total of 16,322 produced. This Healey was originally finished in black and now sports a distinctive pastel red.
The current owner purchased the car in 2014 and has cherished it ever since, using the car often during summer days as an ‘everyday Healey’. The car is not perfect but because of that, it is priced accordingly, and it offers a good opportunity for someone who wants a car that could be improved over time or a Healey that can be used more frequently, without becoming too precious.
In 2015, the vehicle underwent a comprehensive service and received a range of enhancements designed to improve both reliability and driveability while maintaining its period-correct charm. These upgrades include new spark plugs and tops, a Moto-Lita steering wheel with a polished boss, conversion to a negative earth alternator which involved fitting a new petrol pump and rev counter, and the installation of electronic ignition. Additionally, a driver’s side overtaking mirror was fitted, along with a new trim panel behind the driver’s seat.
The interior is presented to a good standard, featuring the classic BJ8 wooden dashboard complemented by the newly fitted Moto-Lita steering wheel, preserving timeless character.
