Austin-Healey 3000 MKIIA

£48,500

This 1962 Austin Healey 3000 MkIIA (BJ7) is an original UK-market, right-hand-drive example, offered with a nice provenance and a good balance of originality and carefully considered upgrades. This BJ7 is accompanied by one of the most comprehensive history files we’ve encountered, showing multiple decades of records and maintenance history.

Remarkably, this vehicle has had just three long-term owners over a period of nearly 50 years. The first owner owned the car from 1977 to 1998, followed by the second from 1998 to 2019, and the current owners from 2019 to 2025. Each has clearly cherished the car, and it has been used regularly and reliably, including multiple extended road tours across Europe and the South of France.

One distinctive feature of this Healey is its rare set of spot lamps, styled in the fashion of the original Works rally cars. These include the seldom-seen shroud-mounted lamps, a detail typically only found on factory competition cars. It is unclear whether these units are surplus Works new old stock or bespoke reproductions fabricated specifically for this car, but either way, they represent a rare and striking addition. The result is a unique styling cue that sets this BJ7 apart visually and gives it a purposeful, motorsport-inspired character not often seen on road-going Healeys.

Mechanically, the car benefits from an engine rebuild carried out by Denis Welch Motorsport in 2003, which included the fitment of an aluminium cylinder head. In 2008, a major body-off restoration and full mechanical refurbishment were completed by Healey specialists JME Healeys. Since then, the car has been maintained and improved to a high standard, with upgrades chosen for reliability and drivability, including a high-torque starter motor, spin-on oil filter conversion, alternator and negative-earth conversion.

What makes this car particularly appealing is the thoughtful way in which these upgrades have been integrated. It is quick, responsive, and easy to live with, offering a driving experience that’s engaging and enjoyable, without compromising its period feel.

The current owners have continued the mantle of maintenance and care, and the car is presented in good mechanical condition but does have some light cosmetic blemishes, expected of a used car from the 1960’s. A full inspection and written report have been carried out by Bill Rawles Classic Cars and are available for any prospective buyer seeking additional peace of mind.

A complete chronological record of works from 1979 to the present day is available upon request. Viewings and test drives are welcomed by appointment.
