Austin Healey 100/6 ‘S’
Austin-Healey were keen to improve the performance of their competition cars. To fit any component onto their comp. cars, it must have been fitted to a ‘production car.’ There was a need for 4-wheel disc brakes due to the ever-increasing competitive nature of 1950’s rallying and circuit racing. During this time approximately 50 100/6 model cars were fitted with Dunlop 4-wheel disc brakes, and these cars were labelled as the 100/6 ‘S’ although often referred to as the 100/6 ‘MM’ For mille-miglia. In 1958, the Healey Motor Company developed the 100/6 S to compete in production racing classes with full disc brakes.
Just 50 cars were built to satisfy homologation requirements, making these among the rarest Austin-Healey’s produced. There is limited documentation from the factory on this period, and it is difficult to 100% guarantee the authenticity of any 100/6 ‘S’, however, this car is produced in the correct period and is accompanied by a valuation from the Austin-Healey club that states in 2024; “This is an original home market RHD model, with matching numbers. It appears to have been delivered to the Exhibition Hall at Longbridge before being sold. This BN4 is one of the original Dunlop disc brake cars and there is some evidence to suggest it was used as a competition car in its early life”
We are pleased to offer for sale this UK RHD home market, limited production model, Austin-Healey 100/6 ‘S’. This car sports 4-wheel Dunlop disc brakes and the exterior is finished in the ever-popular Ice blue over Old English White paint, which is the original colour the car left the factory in.
The car was placed on SORN between 2004 and 2007 before returning to regular use with its current owner, who has maintained and enjoyed it throughout their ownership.
The car was recommissioned in 2022. At this time, the engine received a top-end refresh, the interior was retrimmed in blue, and new wire wheels and tyres were fitted all round.
