The Austin-Healey 3000 MKI was the first iteration of the 3000 model. Its engine was enlarged from the 2.6-litre six-cylinder unit used in the Healey 100/6 to the 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine that would become synonymous with the Healey 3000, providing increased power and performance. The car maintained the clean and uncomplicated interior, arguably provided in its purest form. This example is the desirable BN7, having only 2 seats. This increases the boot space and allows the spare wheel to sit above the boot on the parcel shelf.
This car has been in its current ownership since 1993. The late Richard McGill and his wife were founding members of the Austin Healey Club Belgium. The current owner has maintained servicing throughout the years, as well as completing a major recommission in 2003 by Orchard restorations. This specific car was built at the end of August 1959 and was built as an export left hand drive car.
From the accompanied history files, we can see that in 2003, the car underwent an extensive overhaul. This included the full strip down and rebuild of the engine and gearbox. This then extended to replacing the boot floor and corroded rear shroud and shock supports. Moving to the front, the front shroud was stripped, and the filler and rust was removed and repaired. At this time, seat belts were also fitted to the car. This totalled to just over £7000. Prior to this, the doors had been stripped and restored in 1997. The hood frame was repaired in 1996, while a boot rack was fitted in 1993. In recent years, the car has seen little use and could benefit from some upgrades, although not completely necessary.
Well-equipped for both touring and everyday enjoyment, this car comes with a useful selection of additional equipment. The included hard top as seen in the photos is a rarity and helps to provide additional protection from the cold and wetter weather and extends the season of driving start to finish. For when the hard top is removed, you have the option of a white hood, a black vinyl tonneau cover, or a black mohair tonneau cover. Also included is a full-size spare wheel, side screens, tool kit, rear fog light, rain cover and the luggage rack.
