Austin Sprite – Twin Cam Fast Road/Competition
Chassis number AAN10 87483G, one of the last ‘Sprites’ to be manufactured. In 1970, BMC decided to cancel the consultancy contract with the Healey family and only sell MG midgets, as they would not have to pay royalties.
As there was already 1033 models already in production, they produced 1033 badges with the wording ‘Austin Sprite’ to clear production.
The car has had extensive development work to the running gear. Perfectly suited for modified hill climbing and sprints, this is a cost effective entry into the market of competition cars.
The engine is bored to 73.50mm, forged EN40B crank, forged pistons, engine capacity increased to 1380cc. Specially developed to run a DOHC BMW K1200RS head, converted by Specialist Components. Spark and injection controlled by an ECU.
Transmission is a 5 speed Mazda MX5 gearbox with a quaife LSD.
Additional improvements to this pocket rocket include uprated brakes, high ratio steering, neg camber kit for the front and superflex bushes. Running on 6×13 mini lites with Yokohama A048 tyres. There’s an extensive list of upgrades and work done on this car, as a project of a Healey enthusiast this little sprite really flies and can be used as a bit of fun in the sun or a competitive modified sprint and hill climb competition car. The owner is available to contact if you would like to discuss the improvements in detail. The engine produces 138 @ 8,000 rpm tested by aldon in 2016.
Overall, the car is in good health and presentable as a competition car but would benefit from a tidy up in places.
A pocket rocket, ready to drive away, developed and reliable. Just one of 1033 Austin Sprites produced, clearly an amount of investment and hours has gone into this car which is reflected in the price. Marketed as above but open to offers and discussion to the right buyer.
